The Saints

333 Skvadron (No. 333 Squadron), Royal Norwegian Air Force — "The Saints" · Allied · 2024

Norway's 333 Squadron traces to No. 1477 (Norwegian) Flight and was formally stood up on 10 May 1943 in Scotland, flying Catalina flying boats from Woodhaven and Mosquitos from Leuchars on anti-submarine and coastal-shipping strikes against occupied Norway. The haloed stick figure — Leslie Charteris's Simon Templar, 'The Saint' — has ridden the squadron's tails for generations, its exact wartime adoption long since lost to squadron lore. After more than half a century on the P-3 Orion, the Saints moved from Andøya to Evenes in June 2023 and became Norway's first and only P-8A Poseidon squadron, hunting submarines across the High North in jets named Vingtor, Ulabrand, Viking, Hugin and Munin. This patch was gifted to SSgt Sally by the squadron during Exercise NORDIC RESPONSE 2024, when Norwegian P-8s worked the Arctic alongside allied air power out of Evenes.
