Designed by recruit Hector Pimienta Jr. during recruit training and privately commissioned from an online embroiderer, this patch commemorates Bravo Company, Platoon 1029, and the 301 Marines who graduated alongside him from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in February 2014. The imagery is pure First Battalion: a scarlet numeral 1 framed by crossed NCO swords, with the English bulldog — the Corps' mascot since the First World War — glowering beneath a drill instructor's campaign cover. 1st Recruit Training Battalion has trained recruits at the San Diego depot since its commissioning in 1921, running Alpha through Delta Companies through the thirteen-week transformation that ends with the 54-hour Crucible. Platoon-level patches like this one are rarely official issue; they are made by and for the Marines who earned the numbers on them.
