VMAQ-4 Seahawks

VMAQ-4 "Seahawks" (Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 4) · USMC · 1980s

Commissioned on 21 May 1981 at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, VMAQ-4 was the Marine Corps' only reserve electronic warfare squadron, flying the EA-6A "Electric Intruder" alongside the West Coast Navy reserve Prowler community. Its ranks included veterans who had jammed North Vietnamese radars with VMCJ-1, and in tribute the squadron reclaimed that squadron's old "RM" tail code. The insignia's Northwest-coast Salish hawk is an open salute to the squadron's Puget Sound home and its NFL neighbors in Seattle. The Seahawks traded their EA-6As for EA-6B Prowlers in 1991, went active-duty at MCAS Cherry Point in October 1992, and stood down in June 2017 after 35 years.
