Otis, and the Knights

VMGR-252 "Otis" (Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252, "Heavy Haulers"), Detachment at Morón Air Base, Spain · USMC · 2021-2022

VMGR-252 answers to the radio callsign "OTIS," and its KC-130J detachment at Morón Air Base, Spain flew the hub-and-spoke lifeline into Sigonella and the rest of the North and West Africa Response Force footprint — the Marine aviation element supporting the Army-led NARF mission that succeeded SPMAGTF-CR-AF in October 2020. During the 22.1 rotation across Spain and Italy the squadron's pilots turned their callsign into a standing gag, borrowing John Belushi's Bluto and the toga-party band Otis Day and the Knights from "Animal House," complete with Bluto's rally cry: "Nothing is over until we decide it is." This example was gifted to SSgt Sally by one of those C-130 pilots in thanks for help on a brief — a crew patch that never left the ready room, earned rather than issued.
