This patch was gifted during NORSIC RESPONSE 2024 to SSgt Sally, a token of the allied flying that filled Norwegian skies that spring. Its bearer, 331 Skvadron, was born in exile at RAF Catterick on 21 July 1941, crewed by Norwegians who had fled the occupation and who took the RAF code 'FN' — read by all as 'For Norway' — to become the highest-scoring fighter squadron in southern England. The Viking swords crossed in saltire have followed the unit from Spitfires through Sabres, Starfighters and F-16s to the F-35A rendered here, flown from Ørland Air Station since the squadron's 2023 conversion. Three months before this patch changed hands, 331 led its first NATO air policing rotation over Iceland as an F-35 squadron; the motto beneath the jet has not changed since 1941.
