Stood up on 15 December 2011 as heir to the First Canadian Submarine Squadron (1966–1996), the Canadian Submarine Force is the Royal Canadian Navy's silent arm — four Victoria-class diesel-electric boats, Victoria, Windsor, Corner Brook and Chicoutimi, bought from Britain in 1998 and split between Halifax and Esquimalt. Bilingual by design, this PVC patch sets a Victoria-class hull across a periscope reticle, the crosshairs and red maple leaf marking the trade that hunts from below the surface. In the 2020s the force pushed under the ice on Arctic patrols during Operation Nanook and trained allied officers from South Korea, Italy and the Netherlands for the punishing Perisher command course, even as Ottawa began the search for up to twelve replacement submarines.
