VMM-261 (Rein) "Raging Bulls" — Special Purpose MAGTF – Alert Contingency MAGTF, with MAG-26 / MALS-26 · USMC · 2025
Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261, the "Raging Bulls" of MCAS New River, is the Marine Corps' longest continuously active MV-22B Osprey squadron, tracing its lineage to 1951. In 2025 the squadron stood up as the aviation combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force's Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Alert Contingency MAGTF, the command's on-call crisis-response force built to launch its lead echelon within hours of notification. Reinforced by detachments from Marine Aircraft Group 26 and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 — the two names lettered up the flanks of the rope border — the squadron trained through the summer at high altitude over Colorado and in confined-area landings before assuming the alert mission. The bull rider astride a charging white bull beneath a tilting Osprey is the squadron's own emblem turned into a joke about the assignment: hang on and stay ready.
