Worn on the binational watch floor at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, this patch belongs to the Joint Intelligence Operations Center – North, the intelligence arm serving both the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command. JIOC-North traces to the Secretary of Defense directive of 3 April 2006 that stood up Joint Intelligence Operations Centers at every combatant command, folding all-source collection, analysis, and dissemination into a single around-the-clock enterprise; at Peterson the mission is uniquely shared, with American and Canadian personnel sitting side by side under a U.S. commander and a Canadian deputy answerable to both the President and the Prime Minister. The design reads as a statement of that partnership — a white star and a red maple-leaf star flanking the North Star above a gridded globe laced with orbital tracks and a vertical sword. The center is still manned today, and the patch is current-issue rather than historical.
